As part of our ongoing training for our staff we run regular teacher training courses and CPD course. All of our courses are accredited by the various governing bodies, which are run by our fully qualified, insured and CRB checked tutors. Wessex Swim School has been training swimming teachers since 2005 and over 1,000 teachers have successfully completed their qualifications through us.
STA Safety Award for Teachers – Lifesaving
This course replaces the STA Pool Emergency Procedure course, from September 2015.
Holders of the Lifesaving – Safety Award for Teachers are capable in pool rescue, first aid, adult, child and infant CPR techniques. Holders will be competent to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with The HSE Publication Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools and British Standard BS EN 15288 Part 2, Safety Requirements for Operations.
This course is a compulsory requirement to become a swimming teacher with Wessex Swim School
This is the first course you will need to complete, if you would like to become an STA Swimming Teacher. It is an introduction to swimming teaching, with basic essentials of teaching, assessed by the STA – Swimming Teachers Association
Successfully completing this course would qualify you to teach beginners
This is the next stage to your qualification. The course aims to prepare holders to teach, without supervision, pupils of all levels. It enables you to teach all ages and abilities, with in depth assessments of teaching and teaching practices, assessed by the STA – Swimming Teachers Association
In order to attend this course, you must have successfully completed the STA Level 2 Award Course beforehand
Successfully completing this course would make you a fully qualified swimming teacher
